USIS names Lee Spirer as Head of New Ventures

FALLS CHURCH, Va., April 15, 2009 – USIS, a national leader in employment screening, a leading provider of data and information solutions to the insurance industry, and the largest supplier of security investigations to the U.S. government, has appointed Lee Spirer as a the Head of New Ventures, reporting to Senior Vice President of Growth and Innovation Michael Beber.

As part of the company’s new growth and innovation team, Spirer will work with the corporation, and its three lines of business, to further develop and implement growth initiatives. Spirer will focus on identifying new businesses for the corporation to build or acquire, that he would then lead. Spirer served as a consultant to USIS before joining as a full-time employee.

“USIS has begun a strategic growth initiative focusing on expanding the solutions we provide to our existing customers and developing new opportunities expanding our markets,” said Beber. “Lee has many years of experience advising companies on new opportunities and then leading the growth of those businesses. His expertise will be a great asset to the team.”

Prior to USIS, Spirer served as the managing partner for LAS Advisory Services, a New York-based consulting firm, which he founded in March 2008. In that role, he primarily worked with private equity and venture capital clients, advising on new opportunities and improving growth and performance in existing portfolio companies. Prior to founding LAS, Spirer was an executive vice president and head of strategy and corporate development at Dun & Bradstreet, where he significantly accelerated product development and growth of the company through organic investment and acquisitions/joint ventures.

Prior to Dun & Bradstreet, Spirer was a member of the executive team of Mainspring Inc., a venture-backed research and advisory company. He led the company from start-up to a public offering and eventual sale to IBM in 2001. At IBM, he played a key role in the $3.5 billion acquisition and integration of Price Waterhouse Coopers Consulting and held a number of senior positions in what became Business Consulting Services, including general manager of the $750 million Global Financial Markets Business Unit. Earlier in his career, Spirer was a Principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, leading segments of the financial services practice.

Spirer received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and his B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from Brandeis University.
